What's in a name...

Food Company Cookbooks - The name of our website implies that we are only interested in cookbooks published by food manufacturers. This is not entirely true. We used this title because the vast majority of these type cookbooks were (and still are) published by the food companies. However, our focus also includes advertising cookbooks published by appliance manufacturers, food industry trade associations, cookware companies and others,

What do we mean by...

Advertising Cookbooks - We use this term to encompass all of the recipe publications that are published by food manufacturers and others whose purpose is to promote a brand name product or service. The formats of these publications may be a traditional hardcover or softcover cookbook, a booklet, pamphlet or brochure, or even recipe cards. We also include those publications found at the supermarket check-out, which are in reality, periodicals or magazines. To simplify things, we take the liberty of calling all of them "cookbooks", whether or not they are true cookbooks or other examples of culinary ephemera.

Why are we here....

We're here to fill the gap. Several gaps, in fact. Our own futile online searches have shown that there's no readily available resource that completely documents the subcategory of advertising cookbooks. There are pieces here and snippets there and a few clues over that way. It's a formidable project but we're going to go ahead and take a bite out of the elephant.

There are many folks looking not only for the names of those cookbooks but for the recipes found inside them. It might surprise some to know that even the food companies are out there searching for some of their own recipes from the past.

Advertising agencies and marketing departments continue to recognize that printed recipe advertising is a viable way to reach consumers and get their products noticed. Even with the advent of fancy company websites, consumers still use these little free cookbooks to try new recipes, buy new products, referring back to them again and again. Offers for new publications are usually found by chance. We're going to try and make sure you don't miss any new offers that come along.
